Working as a freelance copywriter for Contractor Mortgages Direct I was penning regular blog content to drive traffic to their site, and explain their services in a jargon-free, relatable way. There are a lot of subjects in business that are highly necessary, but quite dry. Financial topics tend to be some of the dryest, with many people completely confounded by the complexities of mortgages, taxes, account filing, and other vital necessities in day-to-day life. When you run a business that hinges on something so many find offputting, having great blog content that makes the complex simple, and the inexplicable effortless to understand is super important.
Why Having A Niche Is A Great Idea…
I love working with companies who have really nailed their branding and identity, and settled into a specific niche. This happens a lot with companies like recruitment agencies, who specialise in finding workers a particular industry, or exclusively remote workers. For a mortgage broker to specialise in a specific type of mortgage – in this case, mortgages for contractors – is a genius move. It allows them to be incredibly specific in their marketing and content, diving really deeply into the issues and pain points that customers looking for that exact type of mortgage have. If you offer mortgages to everyone, the challenges they face vary wildly depending on numerous factors – their profession, their credit rating, their age, their salaries, etc. By focusing on contractors, specifically, you can disregard a lot of irrelevant information and give more valuable information on the points that are going to be most relevant.
